BMC Certified Practitioner, Teacher
Sara offered a blue iris to Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen in 1973, grateful to have encountered a teacher with such profound truths about the body. A year later, Sara graduated in Dance Therapy from NYU that led her into the world of professional dance. She apprenticed with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company in NYC, choreographed and performed with several modern dance companies (David Woodberry, Pauline de Groot, Andy De Groat, and Phyllis Rose) in Europe and the U.S., and spent summers in Amherst training with Bonnie. She is a published poet.
It was in Amherst that Sara co-founded the Body-Mind Centering Association along with Ellen Barlow, and taught in the first formal training program of Body-Mind Centering®. Since then, she has assisted Bonnie in many programs over the years and taught at the Opleiding Moderne Dans in Amsterdam, and in New York City at the Open Center, Marymount Manhattan College, and the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She served as president of the BMCA and the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA) that promotes movement for all.
Sara is licensed in Massage Therapy from New York State with certifications as an ACE Personal Trainer, an Orthopedic Exercise Specialist, a TMJ Specialist, a NeuroMuscular Therapist, and a long-time teacher of Body-Mind Centering®. She is an ISMETA registered Movement Therapist.
In 1990, Sara founded The NeuroMuscular Center, Inc.. in New York City where she has given more than 20,000 treatments in 45 years of practice to those with movement disabilities, sports injuries, brain trauma, chronic stress, and other health issues. She has worked with celebrities, office workers, artists, teenagers, babies, and the elderly.
Last June she was featured on the panel of NYU’s Health Forum where she led the crowd in moving and cheering:
